Pallas’s cats, known locally as manul, are small, elusive wildcats found throughout Mongolia's rocky steppes, grasslands, and hills, with the country believed to hold the world's largest population. These solitary,,, ambush hunters have thick fur and thrive in cold climates, with sighting expeditions popular in winter.
They inhabit stony, hilly areas, particularly in the Mongolian steppe, where they live in rock crevices or abandoned burrows.Roughly the size of a domestic house cat but appearing much larger due to extremely dense fur and a thick, fluffy tail.Pikas are their primary food source, often making up over 50% of their diet, supplemented by rodents, birds, and insects. Classified as Near Threatened. Winter months (such as January and February) are often regarded as the best time for spotting them, particularly during early morning or late afternoon.
